Primary school

The SEP Happy primary school opened its doors in September 2010 with just one class. We now have 8 classes of students from kindergarten up to Class 6.

KG 1 & 2

In the youngest classes - KG (Kindergarten) 1 & 2 - the children learn through play. The classrooms are set up differently to the rest of the school, with lots of room for the children to move about and explore the many resources independently.

They start to learn the basics of reading and writing through daily phonics sessions, while exploring basic number and shape concepts in maths. They learn how to cooperate with others, participate in songs and games, and generally learn about the world around them.

The teaching is mainly in the local language of Fantse with some introduction of English vocabulary.

Classes 1-6

From Class 1 (ages 5-6 years), the learning becomes slightly more formal with more emphasis on children reading and writing independently.

The teaching is still mainly carried out in Fantse until Class 3, and then from Class 4, more and more of the teaching is in English. Through regular teacher training we encourage our teachers to use dynamic teaching methods to keep our students engaged in their learning.
